#DAT puts remaining #MD83 up for sale

According to ch-aviation.com, DAT (Danish Air Transport) plans to cease MD-80-ops and the remaining MD-83 is now offered for sale. The 165-seat aircraft – originally delivered to Airtours International in 1990 – was used alongside an MD-87 as their biggest aircraft prior to the introduction of the 180-seat Airbus A320. DAT also operates ATR42/72s as well as mentioned Airbus A320s.

Andes plans to replace their MD-80s with Airbus A319s

Argentine company Andes Líneas Aéreas plans to replace their MD-80-fleet with Airbus A319s. The current fleet will be replaced by four A319s. Andes celebrated their 10th-anniversary a few days ago. Most sources claim that Andes currently operates four MD-80s and the introduction of the A319 would mean a 1:1-replacement of the MD-80-fleet.

Far Eastern Air Transport to replace their MD80-fleet with Boeing 737-800s

There were reports in July 2015 that Far Eastern Air Transport (FAT) decided to lease a single Boeing 737-800 for delivery in late spring of 2016. Additional articles now report that FAT aims to take 20 Boeing 737-800s to replace their eight-strong MD-82/-83-fleet. Most sources claim that the MD-80s will be replaced „from 2020“ onwards. This could mean that the first Boeing 737s will be used to expand their network and that these aircraft will augment the schedules currently done by MD-80s prior to the planned retirement of the Douglas-jetliners.

Updates on this developing story suggest that the MD-80-fleet will be retired by 2020 and not from 2020 onwards as earlier stated.

#AmericanAirlines aims to retire remaining #MD80´s by 2018

According to official information, American Airlines aims to retire their last MD-80s by 2018. The following downsizing of the fleet calls for the following size at the end of each remaining year:

At the end of 2014, American Airlines operated 139 MD-80s and this number will decrease to 96 at the end of 2015. 60 MD-80s will be operational at the end of 2016 and 34 aircraft at the end of 2017. It is likely that the remaining 34 MD-80s will be retired during 2018.
